Geraint Thomas closed his career with an unforgettable farewell ride through Cardiff, joined by his son and cheered on by thousands of fans before celebrating with 4,000 supporters at Cardiff Castle.

Geraint Thomas said goodbye to professional cycling in the most unforgettable way.

The 39-year-old Tour de France champion rode through the streets of Cardiff for the final stage of the Tour of Britain, ending his remarkable career in his home city. Fans lined the roads to cheer him on, and the moment became even more special when his five-year-old son Macs joined him on the handlebars, proudly waving the Welsh flag.

It was a true hero’s send-off. After the race, more than 4,000 supporters gathered at Cardiff Castle, where Thomas thanked the crowd and even made sure everyone had free beer to raise a glass in celebration.

What stood out most wasn’t just his victories on the bike, but the way people spoke about him. From fellow cyclists to local fans, Thomas was described as a gentleman, a role model, and an ambassador for Welsh sport.

From growing up with the Maindy Flyers cycling club to conquering the Tour de France, his journey has inspired both elite riders and kids just starting out on two wheels.

One thing is clear: Geraint Thomas isn’t just leaving behind medals and titles, he’s leaving behind a legacy of passion, humility, and community.
