The 29-year-old Modern Adventure Pro Cycling rider lined up for his first pro race in Europe and ended the day on the podium after a fast and aggressive 150km stage from Benahavís to Pizarra.

The opening half of the race featured sustained climbing and relentless attacks before the early break was reeled in with 36km remaining, setting up a high-speed run to the line.

Oliver, who spent more than a decade racing mountain bikes internationally before turning full-time to the road this season, relied on positioning and instinct in a chaotic finale.

With powerhouse lead-outs from teams such as Visma and FDJ United dominating the front, Oliver surfed wheels inside the final kilometres to continue contending.

A critical moment came inside the final kilometre when he avoided a crash at a roundabout with a clean bunny-hop over a curb, preserving both speed and balance. From there, he latched onto Christophe Laporte’s wheel as the Frenchman launched his sprint.

Laporte took victory, Bastien Tronchon followed, and Oliver powered through to secure third.

“First pro race in Europe and first podium is absolutely wrapped,” Oliver said. “Team vibes are good, now four more days to go.”

A rider who spent years carving trails in the dirt just proved that instinct, nerve, and one perfectly timed bunny-hop can get him all the way to a European podium.
